My Client is a leading big- blue chip company FMCG Company based in Dublin West and due to continued growth and movement within the team are looking to recruit a Category Insights Manager to join the team. This is – and I am not over talking it but one of the best opportunities within the FMCG sector at this level within the Category Management area !!. Why? 1. My Client has some fantastic Irish iconic brands and 2. The Hiring Manager- who is one of the best Directors / leads within the Category management – she is fantastic !- personable; fair and is looking for someone who is- in her words “Denis I am looking for someone who can get buy in internally with stakeholders and then externally with retailers- you could be excellent on data but I want someone who can tell a story in an engaging manner ! This role is very much about driving growth and unlocking opportunities.”

The Role

This is a very diverse and varied role and will focus on a key category and some leading brands. Another really attractive aspect to the role is that you will sit on the Growth Team- a team compromised of peers at Senior level within commercial; sales; Operations and Finance and will focus specifically on strategy so displaying critical thinking and having a voice will be important- whilst having a collaborative approach. The 2nd part to the role is partnering with Retailers; meeting with them; getting buy in by “delivering insightful stories in an engaging manner on the brands and category ‘ and as highlighted it is all about unlocking opportunities and driving growth.

My Client has several Number 1 brands in the FMCG sector and they are very much focused on ” transforming people and growing the Business.” Success for this role is based on Distribution and specific key projects and targets are attainable. ( The Hiring Manager/ Head of Category is great ! she has been with the Business for over 10 years – is highly thought off by her team and the Business but at the same time – she said “Denis do want to handhold someone; I want someone who can do this role and potentially move in to other roles within the company over time.”

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and conduct range and category reviews with relevant retail partners.
  • Manage the day to day relationships with Customers that ensure we are a key part of their Category Strategy processes, range reviews and captaincy consideration enabling us to drive growth and brand awareness.
  • Implement category vision plans in conjunction with marketing, insight and commercial teams- ( this will mean playing a vital role as part of the Growth Team)
  • On-going prompt, actionable analysis, interpretation and dissemination of external continuous market data sources including Nielsen, Dunnhumby, Kantar, etc.
  • Ensure distribution, space and quality of space targets are met or exceeded.
  • Supporting and delivering excellent execution in store.
  • Accountable for tracking KPI’s and working with the Category, Commercial, Marketing and Brand Managers to support performance delivery through cross-functional Growth teams.
  • Understanding of macro environment, shopper dynamics and retailer landscape and driving actions based on this through the Marketing and Commercial functions.
  • Working cross functionally undertaking key strategic projects and managing those successfully to completion
  • Contribute to the management of complex stakeholder groups up, down; within and outside the Group.
  • Experience Required:

    • Minimum of 4-5 years category management experience within the FMCG sector
    • Ability to build relationships both with stakeholders and externally with Retailers.
    • Understand roles and importance of segment in a category, analyse and recommend changes.
    • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to unlock opportunities and deliver growth.
