Continued Growth in Corporate Tax Market in Ireland.

At a time when tax policy is front of mind I thought it might be interesting to give an overview of the corporate tax recruitment market.

The tax market as a whole still remains very buoyant and within this Corporate Tax is currently the busiest area. Many of the large firms (Big 4, Top 10/20) are recruiting directly in this space. The level of roles recruited for are largely at a Tax Senior and Tax Manager level however a number of firms are recruiting Directors.

Within the Corporate Tax discipline there are opportunities across both the industry and financial services divisions, which particularly with the largest firms, presents an opportunity for candidates to develop niche expertise in certain markets such as aircraft leasing. Outside of the larger firms there have been a few small/medium sized firms who are directly targeting candidates from larger practices with focused Corporate Tax expertise. They hope to entice candidates by being able to offer greater autonomy and a more varied portfolio of clients. However in many instances smaller firms are not able to compete on salary.

Given the growth in the levels of recruitment in tax over the past 12/18 months many of the larger firms are now willing to consider candidates that have had some tax exposure and who can show a clear and definitive interest in specialising in tax. Allied to this individuals will need to have a very strong academic background and likely to have already undertaken and passed the tax exams.
