Better off alone? 5 Reasons why applying for jobs through a Recruiter is better than you think!
Trailer 2 of Game of Thrones Season 5 hit the internet this week and one aspect that I’m looking forward to is seeing how Tyrion manages on his own away from Kings Landing. It got me thinking about transitions that people go through (like moving job) and how some people choose to manage this themselves whilst others opt to engage with recruitment companies.
Many job seekers choose to reach out to employers and contacts directly and while this may be somewhat effective for people who know how to leverage their broad contact networks in the true Francis Underwood fashion, most candidates will find that there is great value associated with having someone represent you in your job search.
Benefit #1 A recruiter can introduce you to COMPANIES you didn’t even know existed.
Recruiters know their market well and handle information that isn’t accessible to candidates via company websites or social media profiles. They stay in touch with clients to learn about their business expansion plans, their internal culture and their specific needs and they can introduce you to companies you might have never heard of but that turn out to be a perfect fit for what you’re after.
Benefit #2 A recruiter can introduce you to JOBS you didn’t even know existed.
Some job openings out there are never publicly advertised, neither on job boards nor through company websites. For various reasons businesses might not want the general public know about an opening and hire recruiters to go after suitable candidates in confidence. Another possible scenario is that the company will actually create a role for you if they see an excellent fit for your skills and experience, a role that they were not planning to have initially.
Benefit #3 A recruiter will PITCH for you.
Recruiters speak to clients about the additional criteria that are important when deciding to hire someone, other than what’s written in the job spec. When they see a fit with your profile and put you forward for the role, they will pull all relevant information and emphasize your suitability better than you can do yourself. Plus they do this bit of work for you, so you’re increasing your chances of getting the job with less effort!
Benefit #4 A recruiter will FOLLOW UP for you.
Throughout the process, starting off from when the CV is sent and finishing with a signed contract, your recruiter will follow up with the client and keep you updated on the progress of your application. You would probably feel a bit uncomfortable (and probably come across as a bit too eager!) calling the hiring manager every few days to inquire about where things stand, but your recruiter will do it for you because it’s their job! You’ll have a better overview and make informed decisions when choosing between two job offers, for example.
Benefit #5 A recruiter will continuously SEARCH for you.
As you’re leading your busy everyday life, your job search activity is limited to a few hours, maybe a few days when you’re screening ads or looking at companies that appear in your LinkedIn. Chances are, suitable jobs may not appear anywhere at that given time and you may miss out. Recruiters, however, are on the lookout continuously, visiting job boards, talking to clients etc. and they will be able to tip you off about a job even when you’re not actively searching.
Happy job searching to everyone and remember to contact us for latest jobs and market information.
