The Walking Dead Season 5

Have you become a Zombie in your Job?

With the new season of the Walking Dead starting back on our screens this week, it felt like a good time to talk about identifying when a job has become a (walking) dead-end.

Sometimes roles evolve and progress at the same pace as your career expectations but sometimes a role can become lifeless and empty – a bit like a Zombie.

So how can you tell if you’ve reached the end point in your current role? There are three identifiable traits you should keep an eye out for when assessing if it’s time to move on:

  1. You haven’t learned anything new in a long time

If the learning curve in your job has plateaued – it could be a sign that you have out grown the role. When a career stops moving forwards, it doesn’t stand still – it starts going backwards so start thinking about your options.

  1. You are no longer challenged

If you are no longer challenged by the day to day aspects of your role it may be time to bring on more responsibilities and if this isn’t available within your current job, then it might be time to consider a move.

  1. You’re job doesn’t satisfy you anymore.

Not every job is going to be the dream job and if your role has never provided any satisfaction then maybe it’s the wrong career. However if you have simply lost the job satisfaction that you once had – then perhaps it’s time for a change.

Whilst the Zombies in the walking dead unfortunately can’t do much about their predicament, you certainly can and in the improving economy there are many and varied opportunities for qualified professionals.
